Beware of previously owned baby bedding because it may not be as safe. Older fire-retardant crib bedding may contain chemicals no longer considered safe, and some dyes found in older crib sets are no longer permitted for baby bedding.
Borrowed baby bedding can be made to look like new with a good washing, but sometimes borrowed sets cannot be made to look like new crib bedding. You want your baby to have the calmest and most comfortable sleep, and many mattresses look perfectly new. But if they have been used by another, then the comfort your baby feels will be lost. Secondhand mattresses could have stains or even mold spores and dust particles that can cause breathing problems for your baby.
